Head of News / Chief News Editor

About the Role

MH Global Group is seeking an experienced and highly capable Head of News / Chief News Editor to lead the editorial and newsroom operations of our online news portal.

The successful candidate will be responsible for setting the overall editorial direction, managing the newsroom team, ensuring the accuracy and credibility of published content, and strengthening the portal’s position as a reliable and competitive digital news platform.

We are looking for a senior media professional with strong editorial judgment, leadership capability, and an in-depth understanding of Bangladesh’s media landscape and current affairs.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the overall newsroom and editorial operations of the news portal.
• Develop and execute the editorial strategy, news agenda, content priorities, and coverage plans.
• Lead, supervise, and mentor reporters, sub-editors, content writers, and other newsroom professionals.
• Oversee daily news planning, story assignments, editing, fact-checking, and publication.
• Ensure timely coverage of breaking news and significant national and international developments.
• Review and approve major news stories, headlines, features, interviews, and special reports before publication.
• Maintain high standards of accuracy, credibility, impartiality, journalistic ethics, and responsible reporting.
• Monitor national and international current affairs and identify important and emerging stories.
• Coordinate coverage across politics, business, economy, international affairs, entertainment, sports, lifestyle, and other relevant news categories.
• Work closely with digital, social media, video, marketing, and management teams to increase audience reach and engagement.
• Develop newsroom policies, workflows, reporting standards, and editorial guidelines.
• Build and develop a strong newsroom team while ensuring performance, accountability, and professional development.
• Contribute to the long-term growth, credibility, audience development, and strategic positioning of the news portal.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, Media Studies, English, International Relations, Political Science, or a relevant discipline.
• Significant professional experience in journalism, newspaper, television, digital media, or an established online news portal.
• Previous experience as Head of News, Chief News Editor, Executive Editor, News Editor, or another senior editorial leadership position is highly preferred.
• Strong understanding of the Bangladesh media landscape, national affairs, politics, business, and current affairs.
• Excellent editorial judgment with strong news selection, editing, and fact-checking abilities.
• Proven experience in managing and developing newsroom teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Bangla and English.
• Strong understanding of digital journalism, social media, audience engagement, and evolving online news trends.
• Ability to lead effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven newsroom environment.
• High level of professional integrity, leadership, and decision-making capability.
