Remote eligible position, but won't cover interview expenses.
Looking for thoughts and advice. Applied for a remote eligible position with an organization in Washington D.C. I live about a 7-8 hour drive way. Had an interview with HR. Moved onto an interview with several team members. They would like me to come to the office for the final round. I agreed and scheduled. However, when I followed up to inquire about their reimbursement process, they let me know that they don't reimburse for interview travel expenses. That seems like a red flag to me. Contrast that to the experience with a second organization , which just extended an offer. It's for another remote eligible position for a reputable organization and they don't require me to travel for a final interview. Do you think it's a red flag that the first org won't cover interview travel expenses? Or a test of some sort? Even if it is a test, it comes across to me as somewhat disrespectful to make the position remote eligible for anywhere, ask me to travel for the final interview and then not offer to cover expenses. What say you?
