Is this employer breaking the law by not including benefits?

I’m not well versed on employment laws, but from what I understand this job offer I received may not be legal so I’d like some input. Job offer has me scheduled 34 hours a week, working 5 days a week, for a company with hundreds of employees. As far as I’m aware, it’s not a contractual position. However, I was told I’m not entitled to benefits. Why would this be?
