Is it okay to ask a hiring manager about the interview timeline for an internal job after submitting the application?
I applied for an internal job posting. It's likely I won't hear back on whether I've been shortlisted until the job posting closes. I have a trip coming up in a couple of days. The closing date of the job posting is on the first day of my trip, and I'm trying to figure out if I need to pack my work laptop and expect an interview to happen during the trip. One issue is that I don’t know whether the interview is in-person or virtual. I want to reach out to the hiring manager to ask about the general timeline (when are the interviews happening) and format (can they be virtual and is there any document they need me to prepare for the interview), but I'm worried about a few things. Would asking these questions make me sound entitled, as if I'm assuming I've already landed an interview? Is it better to mention my upcoming trip as the reason I'm asking, or could mentioning travel make me look unavailable or rule me out? How can I phrase my questions so they come across as general, low-pressure logistical inquiries rather than pushiness?
