Interview Timeline

Hi, I have been job hunting for about 2 months and appear to be on track to land a promising job out of state. However, the timeline process is very anxiety inducing and I would like to seek opinions on the process. I feel that it’s too early to send a follow up email but if it sounds like a good idea, please let me know! (Also note that this is a job for an elected official in the federal government, for a role similar to the one I currently work). - Applied over a month and a half ago - Interview request by zoom 2 weeks ago - Follow up in person interview request (requiring out of state travel by plane) 1 week ago - Follow up for submitting a writing exam along with a resume with typos fixed 5 business days ago. - References contacted 4 business days ago. - Currently waiting to hear back if I am going to have a final interview with the elected official directly. I am currently nervous that I am going to be edged out by someone more qualified, and that the silence means that I am being put on the back burner for other finalists in case it goes wrong. Thoughts?
