I got fired from my first job
I got fired after 4 days and I’m heartbroken. For context, it was my first ever “real job,” though I’ve done volunteer work and campus jobs, and it was at a fancy cafe. My boss knew I had very little experience and still took a chance on me, and I feel like I’ve failed to meet his expectations which feels terrible. It was a steep learning curve, but I feel like I had already begun to really get things and I’ve been working hard all day. I still asked questions when I was unsure of things but I was told to do so, but in his email he listed that as one of the reasons. Today I was told that I’ve “worked with us long enough to know better” but it had only been two days for this specific thing. I’ve made mistakes here and there, like dropping a pastry, but it was never anything drastic. I know I wasn’t perfect but I honestly think I’ve picked it up really fast. I feel insecure because what if someone else in my shoes could have kept the job? I was excited and looking forward to my future. I had begun to form connections with my coworkers and now, suddenly, I’ll never see them again. I can’t even put it on my resume cause it was only for four days. I feel so embarrassed and hurt and angry. I’m not really looking for advice, cause there’s no urgency for a new job—I was just trying to get experience while in college—I’m just looking for words of wisdom or comfort or to at least feel less alone in this.
