R&D Project Portfolio Management
- Manage approximately 10 concurrent R&D projects covering materials, yarns, fabrics, dyeing, finishing, and coating/lamination from feasibility to completion.
- Set project plans, milestones, resources, risks, and success criteria, and report progress to relevant management and stakeholders.
Materials and Process Development
- Lead development trials in dyeing, chemical processing, finishing, drying, coating, and lamination laboratories.
- Develop scalable formulations and processes for future production transfer.
- Oversee rapid material screening and performance evaluation using dedicated R&D testing equipment.
Analytical and Instrumental Characterisation
- Lead analytical characterization using SEM, FT-IR, TGA/DSC, rheometers, viscosimeters, goniometers, and other instruments.
- Ensure accurate data recording, interpretation, repeatability, and application to process and formulation improvements.
Laboratory Coordination
- Coordinate with the R&D Pilot Manager for prototyping and sample development.
- Work with the Head of Testing Laboratory to arrange independent accredited validation of completed R&D samples.
People Management and Development
- Lead and develop chemists, technicians, and analytical staff.
- Allocate manpower and equipment across projects and identify training and competency requirements.
Chemical Handling, Equipment and HSE
- Ensure safe handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals in compliance with HSE requirements.
- Provide technical input for laboratory equipment specification, procurement, installation, and acceptance.
Budget, Documentation and IP
- Manage the operating budget for chemicals, dyes, consumables, and other R&D requirements.
- Maintain project records, formulations, trial data, and analytical results to support knowledge management, IP protection, and technology transfer.
