Student visa steps, financial proof and the paperwork you need from Bangladesh.

All higher studies topics

The order of operations

  1. 1

    Unconditional offer

Meet every condition (final transcript, English score) and accept your place, usually with a deposit.

  2. 2

    Immigration document

The university issues the document your visa depends on: I-20 (USA), CAS (UK), CoE (Australia), Letter of Acceptance (Canada), Admission letter + blocked account (Germany).

  3. 3

    Financial proof

Show tuition plus living costs for the first year, in a form the embassy accepts.

  4. 4

    Pay the fees

Visa fee, and country-specific charges such as the SEVIS fee (USA) or the Immigration Health Surcharge (UK).

  5. 5

    Application and biometrics

Submit the online form, then attend a visa application centre in Dhaka for biometrics.

  6. 6

    Interview (where required)

The USA always interviews; most others do not. Prepare to explain your course, funding and plans after graduation.

  7. 7

    Medical and police checks

Required for Australia, Canada and some others.

Financial proof from Bangladesh

CountryWhat you must showHeld where
USAFunds for the first year as stated on the I-20 (tuition + living), plus a plan for later yearsBank statement / sponsor affidavit
UKTuition plus monthly living costs for up to 9 months, held for 28 consecutive daysBank account in your or a parent's name
CanadaTuition plus a set living-cost amount, revised annually by IRCCGIC with a participating bank, plus proof of tuition payment
GermanyRoughly one year of living costs in a blocked account (Sperrkonto)Blocked account provider (Expatrio, Fintiba, Coracle, or a bank)
AustraliaTuition, travel and a set annual living amountBank statement, loan or scholarship letter

Every one of these amounts is revised regularly. Confirm the current figure on the official immigration site before you move money.

  • Bank solvency certificate and 6 months of statements from a scheduled bank.
  • Sponsor's affidavit of support, income documents, TIN certificate and tax returns.
  • Proof of the source of funds — a sudden large deposit before the application is the most common reason for refusal.
  • Scholarship or assistantship letter, which replaces most of the proof if it covers tuition and living costs.
  • Bangladesh Bank permission for outward remittance where your bank requires it — ask the bank's foreign-exchange desk early.

The US visa interview

  • Pay the I-901 SEVIS fee and complete the DS-160 before booking the interview slot at the US Embassy in Dhaka.
  • Carry: passport, I-20, DS-160 confirmation, fee receipts, admission and funding letters, transcripts, test scores and financial documents.
  • Expect 2–4 minutes. The officer decides on your intent, your funding and whether your plan makes sense.
  • Common questions: Why this university? Why this course? Who is paying? What will you do after graduation? Do you have relatives in the USA?
  • Answer briefly and consistently with your DS-160. Show clear ties to Bangladesh — family, property, a job to return to — because the F-1 visa requires non-immigrant intent.
  • Do not memorise scripted answers or hand over a pile of documents unasked.
