About this course

The BCS preliminary allots 10 marks to "Geography (Bangladesh and the World), Environment and Disaster Management", and the written papers return to the same themes in Bangladesh Affairs and General Science. For a delta country facing cyclones, floods and sea-level rise, this is also the most practical subject in the syllabus. This course covers physical geography — the earth's structure and motions, landforms, the atmosphere, the oceans and maps — then environmental science: ecosystems, biodiversity, pollution, climate change science and its impacts on Bangladesh. The final lessons deal with environmental law and institutions, the concepts of hazard, vulnerability and risk, the disasters Bangladesh actually faces, its internationally admired disaster management system, and sustainable development. Each lesson is written so that you can answer both a one-mark MCQ and a ten-mark written question from the same material.
