About this course

General Science carries 15 marks in the BCS preliminary, and General Science and Technology is a 100-mark written paper for general cadre candidates. Most questions come from **secondary-level physics and chemistry applied to everyday life** — why a rainbow forms, why iron rusts, what makes a fuse blow, which gas is used in which industry. This course covers physics in eleven lessons — measurement, motion, energy, gravitation and pressure, heat, waves and sound, light, electricity and magnetism, modern and nuclear physics, and electronics — and chemistry in the remaining nine: matter and the periodic table, bonding, reactions, acids and bases, metals and alloys, environmental chemistry, organic chemistry and polymers, fuels, and the chemistry of everyday products. Each lesson keeps the mathematics light and focuses on the concepts, formulas and applications that examiners actually test.
