About this course

The Constitution is the most reliably examined topic in Bangladesh Affairs. Preliminary questions ask for article numbers and amendment details; written questions ask you to analyse rights, institutions and checks and balances; the viva board expects you to quote the Constitution confidently. This course covers the Constitution from its making in 1972 to the present. You will learn its structure, the Preamble and Part I, the fundamental principles of state policy, the fundamental rights and their enforcement, the executive, the legislature, the judiciary, the Election Commission, the Comptroller and Auditor-General, the Public Service Commission, emergency provisions, local government, all seventeen amendments with the landmark judgments attached to them, the accountability institutions of the state, and the administrative structure of the country. Constitutional provisions change through amendment and judicial decision. Where a provision has been contested recently, this course says so — always confirm the current position against the latest official text of the Constitution.
