About this course
Two written papers are covered here: **Mathematical Reasoning and Mental Ability (100 marks)** and **General Science and Technology (100 marks)**. Together they are 200 of the 900 marks in the general cadre written examination, and they are the two papers where preparation most directly converts into marks, because the content is finite and the answers are objective. The crucial difference from the preliminary examination is that **you must show the work**. A correct answer with no method earns a fraction of the marks; a method fully shown with a small arithmetic slip earns most of them. In science, the same principle applies: definition, explanation, example and application. This course covers written-level problem solving in every mathematical area, explained reasoning in mental ability, and the full range of the science and technology paper, with the answer structures that earn marks.
