About this course
The English paper carries **200 marks** in the BCS written examination for general cadres — equal to Bangla, and together they decide more than a third of the written total. Unlike the preliminary paper, nothing here can be answered by recognition. Every mark is earned by producing correct, organised English on the page. The paper tests a predictable set of skills: **reading comprehension**, **summary or précis**, **amplification**, **translation from Bangla**, **formal correspondence and reports**, **paragraph and essay writing**, and applied **grammar and usage**. The good news is that these are learnable skills with fixed structures. A candidate who writes one précis, one paragraph and one full essay every week for three months will outperform one who has read far more grammar. Read each lesson, then write the exercise it implies.
