Technical Writer

As a Technical Writer at Camunda, you'll be embedded within product teams, taking full ownership of documentation for key areas of our platform. You'll work side-by-side with engineers, product managers, and designers to ensure our documentation is clear, accurate, and closely aligned with the product experience. This is a hands-on role where you'll become a subject matter expert, directly shaping the developer journey through high-impact content across the Camunda platform.

Beyond content, you'll help maintain and configure the infrastructure that keeps our documentation running smoothly. We're looking for someone who can unblock themselves and the team when something breaks. Day to day, this can mean:

• Troubleshooting and fixing failing GitHub Actions workflows, including reading CI logs, isolating the breaking change, and getting the build green again.
• Reviewing and merging contributions from engineers and the wider community, and keeping branches and versioned docs releases in good shape.
• Diagnosing broken links, redirects, MDX and rendering errors, and search indexing issues across current and versioned content.
• Handling Docusaurus, Node, and dependency upgrades, and resolving the breakages that come with them.
• Improving the tooling, automation, and linting that writers and contributors rely on, so our publishing process stays fast and predictable

You don't need to be a full-time developer, but you should be confident with Git and GitHub workflows, the command line, YAML and JavaScript-based config, Markdown/MDX, and reading an error trace far enough to know whether you can fix it or need to pull in an engineer.

You'll join a collaborative, mission-driven team focused on helping developers become productive with Camunda technologies quickly and joyfully. Developers with technical writing experience are encouraged to apply.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Own and drive the documentation for one or more product areas, acting as the embedded technical writer within the corresponding product teams.
• Maintain and improve our documentation site's technical infrastructure, including build tooling, deployment pipelines, and Docusaurus platform configuration, to keep publishing fast, reliable, and scalable.
• Work closely with engineers, product managers, and designers to stay deeply informed about the product roadmap and ensure documentation is accurate, timely, and aligned with feature development.
• Become a subject matter expert in your assigned product areas, developing hands-on experience with Camunda products to create documentation that reflects real-world usage and developer needs.
• Lead documentation efforts from concept through to release, including planning, writing, reviewing, and maintaining content that empowers developers to succeed with Camunda technologies.
• Advocate for documentation as a critical part of the user experience, bringing the user’s perspective into product discussions and influencing design and implementation where appropriate.
• Continuously improve the structure, clarity, and completeness of the documentation based on analytics, user feedback, and your own insights.
• Collaborate with other writers and the broader Documentation team to share best practices, contribute to team goals, and evolve our documentation tooling and standards.
