PROJECT ENGINEER – JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Position: Project Engineer
Department: Project / Construction
Work Location: Dhaka & Anywhere in Bangladesh
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Execution
- Plan, organize, and supervise day-to-day project activities in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, BOQ, work schedule, and project requirements.
- Ensure that all construction activities are executed according to the approved project timeline.
- Prepare and monitor work programs, schedules, and project execution plans.
- Identify potential delays and take necessary corrective actions to keep the project on schedule.
Site Management & Supervision
- Manage and supervise construction site activities from commencement to completion.
- Coordinate and monitor Site Engineers, Supervisors, Foremen, skilled workers, subcontractors, and labor teams.
- Ensure proper utilization of manpower, equipment, materials, and other resources.
- Maintain discipline, productivity, and proper workflow at the project site.
Drawing & Technical Responsibilities
- Read, understand, and interpret architectural, structural, civil, MEP, and other relevant construction drawings.
- Ensure construction work is carried out strictly according to approved drawings and technical specifications.
- Coordinate with consultants, architects, designers, and other technical personnel regarding drawings and technical issues.
- Identify discrepancies or design conflicts and communicate them to the concerned authority for resolution.
Quantity, Estimation & Cost Control
- Check and verify quantities of construction materials and completed works.
- Prepare material requirements, quantity estimates, and work measurements.
- Monitor project costs and minimize unnecessary wastage and expenditure.
- Verify contractor/subcontractor bills and work measurements before submission for approval.
- Maintain proper records of quantities, materials, labor, and project expenses.
Material & Procurement Coordination
- Prepare material requisitions based on project requirements and work schedules.
- Coordinate with the procurement and store teams to ensure timely availability of construction materials.
- Check the quality and quantity of materials received at the project site.
- Ensure proper storage and utilization of construction materials and minimize wastage.
Quality Control
- Ensure all construction works comply with approved drawings, specifications, BOQ, codes, and quality standards.
- Monitor workmanship and construction quality at every stage.
- Coordinate required inspections, tests, and quality-control activities.
- Identify defective or non-compliant work and ensure proper corrective measures are taken.
Progress Monitoring & Reporting
- Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly progress against the approved work schedule.
- Prepare daily site reports, weekly progress reports, and monthly project reports.
- Report project progress, delays, technical problems, material requirements, manpower status, and other issues to management.
- Maintain proper project records, photographs, measurements, and documentation.
Client & Consultant Coordination
- Maintain professional communication and coordination with clients, consultants, project authorities, and other stakeholders.
- Attend site meetings and provide technical and progress updates.
- Follow up on approvals, inspections, drawings, instructions, and site-related issues.
- Ensure that management instructions and client/consultant requirements are properly implemented at site.
Subcontractor Management
- Supervise and coordinate subcontractors to ensure timely and quality completion of their assigned works.
- Monitor subcontractor manpower, productivity, materials, measurements, and work progress.
- Verify subcontractor work quantities before recommending payments.
- Ensure subcontractors comply with project specifications, safety requirements, and company policies.
Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
- Ensure compliance with all applicable construction safety rules and company safety policies.
- Identify site hazards and take preventive measures to reduce accidents and risks.
- Ensure workers use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized working environment at the project site.
Project Documentation
- Maintain updated records of drawings, BOQs, work orders, measurement sheets, inspection reports, material records, site instructions, correspondence, and other project documents.
- Maintain proper documentation for variations, additional works, and claims.
- Ensure all project records are properly organized and readily available when required.
Problem Solving & Decision Making
- Identify technical, operational, and construction-related problems at an early stage.
- Provide practical and cost-effective solutions within the approved project scope.
- Coordinate with management and technical teams for resolving critical project issues.
- Take necessary immediate actions to prevent delays and quality failures.
Project Completion & Handover
- Ensure all project works are completed according to approved drawings, specifications, quality standards, and contractual requirements.
- Prepare and monitor snag/punch lists and ensure timely rectification.
- Coordinate final inspections, testing, documentation, and handover activities.
- Assist in preparing as-built drawings, completion reports, and other handover documents.
Management Responsibility
- Work closely with the Project Manager and senior management to achieve project objectives.
- Provide regular updates regarding project progress, cost, quality, manpower, materials, and risks.
- Protect the company's interests in all project-related activities.
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding company, client, financial, and project information.
