Barista

Job Context

The Barista is responsible for preparing and serving high-quality coffee, beverages, and related food items while maintaining excellent customer service and cleanliness standards. The position requires good knowledge of coffee preparation, beverage presentation, hygiene, and customer handling in a professional restaurant, café, or hotel environment.

Key Job Responsibilities

Coffee & Beverage Preparation

• • Prepare espresso, Americano, cappuccino, latte, mocha, macchiato, and other coffee beverages according to standard recipes.
  • Prepare hot and cold beverages, including iced coffee, frappes, smoothies, tea, and specialty drinks.
  • Operate and maintain espresso machines, coffee grinders, blenders, and other beverage equipment.
  • Ensure consistency in taste, temperature, quantity, and presentation.

Customer Service

• • Welcome customers politely and professionally.
  • Take customer orders accurately and provide recommendations when required.
  • Understand customer preferences and prepare beverages accordingly.
  • Handle customer requests and complaints professionally and report serious issues to the supervisor.

Quality Control

• • Maintain proper coffee extraction, grinding, milk steaming, and beverage preparation standards.
  • Check the freshness and quality of coffee beans, milk, syrups, toppings, and other ingredients.
  • Follow approved recipes, portion sizes, and presentation standards.

Hygiene & Cleanliness

• • Maintain cleanliness of the coffee counter, equipment, workstations, tables, and service areas.
  • Follow food safety and personal hygiene standards at all times.
  • Clean and sanitize coffee machines, grinders, tools, and other equipment regularly.
  • Ensure proper storage and handling of food and beverage ingredients.

Inventory & Stock Control

• • Monitor daily stock of coffee beans, milk, syrups, sugar, cups, lids, and other supplies.
  • Inform the supervisor about low-stock or damaged items.
  • Follow proper FIFO (First In, First Out) procedures.
  • Minimize wastage and maintain proper portion control.

Cash & Order Handling

• • Process customer orders accurately through the POS system where applicable.
  • Handle cash/card payments according to company procedures.
  • Ensure all orders are properly recorded and billed.

Teamwork & Operations

• • Coordinate with waiters, kitchen staff, supervisors, and restaurant management for smooth service.
  • Support other F&B operations during busy periods when required.
  • Follow duty rosters, company policies, and management instructions.
  • Assist in opening and closing duties of the coffee shop/restaurant.
