What it covers
Tuition and fees, a living and academic stipend, and a travel stipend, for up to three years of any graduate degree at Stanford, alongside a leadership development programme.
Who can apply
Applicants of any nationality, including Bangladesh, who will be starting a graduate degree at Stanford and who earned their first bachelor's degree within the programme's recency window. You must apply to both Knight-Hennessy and a Stanford degree programme.
How to apply
- Check the recency-of-bachelor's rule on the official site before anything else.
- Submit the Knight-Hennessy application, with its essays, video statement and two recommenders.
- Submit a separate application to the Stanford graduate programme you want, by its own deadline.
- Shortlisted candidates are interviewed, then invited to an immersive final round.

Tips from successful applicants
- Two applications, two deadlines — missing the Stanford programme deadline disqualifies you even with a scholarship offer.
- The essays ask about independence of thought and civic purpose; generic leadership writing does badly.
- The recommenders are asked pointed questions, so brief them properly.
