About this position
The FWF-funded research project Max Kalbeck: Networking Practices in Vienna 1900 (Project lead: Henrike Rost) investigates how artists and music-loving elites networked in Vienna around 1900. The project takes as its starting point the two unpublished diaries of the music critic and Brahms biographer Max Kalbeck and the numerous contacts and encounters documented therein ( https://www.mdw.ac.at/imi/max-kalbeck/ ). In cooperation with the ACDH (Austrian Centre for Digital Humanities), a digital edition of Kalbeck’s diaries is being created, which will be linked to the ACDH database “PMB – Personen der Moderne Basis”.
The postholder’s task is to work independently on a topic (to be agreed upon with the project leader) that demonstrates a clear connection to Max Kalbeck and the research field “Vienna 1900. A cultural-studies-oriented and gender-sensitive research perspective is expected, as well as the inclusion and examination of previously underused historical sources (for example, from the holdings of the Wienbibliothek im Rathaus). The planned subproject is to be outlined in a project proposal of approximately 1–2 pages and submitted together with the application.
The postholder is expected to produce, as a result of the project work, at least two publications (peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, or similar, in German and/or English) and to be able to present these at least in manuscript form by the end of the project period. Willingness to take on research tasks and, where necessary, organizational duties on behalf of the project leader is also required.
Salary: According to the collective agreement, the gross monthly salary is € 1.438,50 (14 times). Depending on relevant prior experience, classification in a higher qualification level and a correspondingly higher starting salary may be possible.
