About this position
UNIVERSITY OF LATVIA (Registration No. 90000076669), Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences, invites applications for one Leading Researcher position in the area of Sociology and Social Work with specialization in Political Sociology.
The aim of the position is to lead and conduct high-quality research in political sociology, focusing on public attitudes, opinions and behaviour, and to strengthen the University of Latvia’s research capacity and international visibility through scientific publications, research projects and international collaboration. The position also contributes to teaching, the supervision of emerging researchers and the dissemination of research-based knowledge to society.
Key responsibilities:
- conduct and lead research in political sociology, focusing on public attitudes, opinions and behaviour, and publish findings in peer-reviewed scientific publications;
- develop and manage research projects, contribute to securing research funding, and participate in contract research;
- strengthen international research cooperation through joint projects, academic networks and participation in scientific conferences;
- contribute, as required, to teaching, curriculum development and the supervision of master’s and doctoral theses;
- provide scientific expertise, review academic work and communicate research findings to the wider public.
Qualification requirements:
- a doctoral degree in sociology, political science or a related social science discipline;
- research expertise in political sociology, particularly public attitudes, opinions and behaviour;
- a record of peer-reviewed scientific publications and experience in developing, conducting or managing research projects;
- experience in international research cooperation, with the ability to contribute to teaching and supervise student research;
- language requirements: Latvian, English and Hungarian language proficiency at C1 level;
- Latvian Council of Science expert status or equivalent recognition in the relevant research field.
