About this position

• The Kavli Institute at Cornell for Nanoscale Science (KIC) Postdoctoral
• Fellowships are high-profile, 2- to 3-year postdoctoral positions with
• significant independence and resources. The KIC Fellows program is
• designed to attract the best and brightest experimental researchers in
• nanoscale science to Cornell. Selected candidates will have access to
• the unparalleled resources and faculty available at Cornell in
• nanoscale science and technology. Fellows work in partnership with
• Cornell faculty sponsors on projects consistent with the KIC mission.
• KIC Fellows also receive lifetime membership in the Society of Cornell
• Fellows, along with the participants in other named prestigious and
• competitively awarded Cornell postdoctoral fellowships. Previous KIC
• Fellows have gone on to professorships at major universities around
• the world.
• The Kavli Institute at Cornell for Nanoscale Science (KIC) is devoted
• to the development and utilization of next-generation tools for
• exploring the nanoscale world. KIC champions new techniques to create,
• characterize, and control nanoscale systems, and uses these
• techniques, both theoretical and experimental, to push the frontiers
• of nanoscale science.
• Criteria for Selection

• Applications will be judged on candidate qualifications, the quality and originality of the proposed research, and its suitability to the KIC mission.

• A KIC Fellowship application must have at least two Cornell faculty sponsors, as well as the pre-approval of a KIC executive committee member. The executive committee member need not be a sponsor, but they will play a role in overseeing the Fellow’s progress and helping to integrate fellows into the activities of KIC.

• Candidates should be within 18 months of their PhD graduation date and should not already have been a postdoc at Cornell for more than 9 months at the time of the deadline.

• Kavli Fellowships are made as 12-month appointments with an
• anticipated total duration of 2-3 years. Fellowships pay $80,000
• annually and carry a discretionary research expense account. All
• Fellows agree to put the KIC byline on all publications and
• presentations during their appointment.

• A complete application includes the following materials:

• CV including list of publications

• One-page description of proposed research, including descriptive title and description of a major component developing or utilizing next-generation tools for creation, characterization, or control of nanoscale materials and system

• List of faculty sponsors at Cornell, including the KIC Executive Committee member who has been contacted

• Letter(s) of support from the two Cornell sponsors; one letter signed by multiple sponsors is acceptable

• Two additional letters of recommendation (e.g., from thesis advisor or collaborators)
