About this position

Location: Central Cambridge

We are seeking applications for a PhD position in AI in proteomics as part of the Horizon Europe MSCA Doctoral Network, ProtAIomics. This brings together laboratories across Europe with 16 doctoral students at the interface of artificial intelligence and mass spectrometry proteomics. In collaboration with researchers at the University of Oxford, we seek a candidate to develop AI tools for the interrogation of subcellular proteomics data.

We are interested to hear from candidates with experience in probabilistic or statistical modelling of complex biological data, such as mass spectrometry data, RNA sequencing, or imaging. The candidate should also have a background in working with hierarchical data and resolving ambiguous, overlapping signals. Strong programming skills are essential, along with the ability to build and extend statistical pipelines.

An interest in Bayesian inference applied to biology is also important. A background in computational proteomics or LC-MS/MS analysis, especially peptide/protein identification or signal deconvolution, is desirable.

PhD Studentship: Electromagnetic Sensing for High-Temperature Microstructural Evolution

University of Warwick · WMG

  • Coventry, United Kingdom
  • WMG

This PhD redefines electromagnetic sensing by moving beyond magnetic permeability-dominated approaches to establish a conductivity-driven eddy-current framework for tracking microstructural evolution at high temperature. The transition towards smarter, lower-carbon manufacturing demands new ways to understand and monitor how materials evolve during processing. This PhD project addresses a fundamental and timely challenge in electromagnetic (EM) sensing: how to quantitatively link electrical conductivity–dominated eddy current responses to microstructural evolution during high-temperature proce

PhD Studentship: Designing Human-AI Teams for Meaningful Human Control of 'Machine-Speed' Operations

University of Birmingham · School of Computer Science

  • Birmingham, United Kingdom
  • School of Computer Science

The Centre for National Training and Research Excellence in Understanding Behaviour (Centre-UB) is inviting applications for a Doctoral Studentship in association with BAE Systems, to start from 4 January 2027. This PhD explores the design of human-AI teams when the AI agents operate at ‘machine-speed’ (i.e., significantly faster than human cognitive and communication capabilities). The research will be applicable to command teams working in uncertain and information-degraded environments. Meaningful human control is necessary when humans have to be retained in or on the loop. This requires th
