Postdoctoral Fellow: Sleep Disorders Research
- Description: A post-doctoral fellowship is available at the University
- of Maryland, School of Medicine in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical
- Care, and Sleep Medicine. The fellowship will provide advanced
- training and experience in sleep disorders research methods, with
- particular emphasis on data analysis, manuscript preparation and
- publication, and grant writing. This position will prepare fellows for
- positions in academia, government, or private industry.
- This mentored fellowship provides advanced training in sleep and
- circadian research, with opportunities to contribute to observational
- studies, clinical trials, health services research, and implementation
- science. The fellow will have opportunity to perform secondary
- analysis of ample data from multiple studies and participate in
- multiple peer-reviewed publications. Conference presentations and
- first-author publications are expected and encouraged. In terms of
- this content area, prior experience with sleep research would be
- helpful but is not required.
- Fellows with a clinical background may also receive training in sleep
- disorders evaluation and treatment; all fellows will receive training
- in professionalism, networking, and interdisciplinary team science.
- Finally, the fellow will gain meaningful experience working on a
- highly productive sleep research team that includes four full-time
- sleep research staff, multiple faculty collaborators, and an
- established PI with multiple extramurally funded sleep research
- projects currently underway.
- Fellows receive a competitive salary and benefits. Partial tele-work
- is possible consistent with university policies. This fellowship is
- listed as a 1-year position, with expectations for additional years
- based on performance, funding availability, and mutual interest.
Qualifications:
- This position requires excellent writing skills and a strong interest
- in collaborative research, scholarly publication, and grant
- development. Individuals with a PhD, ScD, or DrPH in medicine,
- psychology, nursing, related social/behavioral science, or
- epidemiology, public health, or a related field are encouraged to
- apply. Individuals with a clinical degree (e.g., MD) with advanced
- research training (e.g., MPH, MS) will also be considered. Applicants
- must be highly motivated, possess excellent communication,
- organizational, interpersonal, and time management skills. Only
- individuals one or more first-author publications and interest in
- independent research and extramural funding should apply.
